During a Relaxation Retreat the daily practices of yoga and Yoga Nidra offered, restores a sense of inner harmony, unloads the burdens and distractions of the mind and reconnects us to the more subtle layers of ourselves.    

Yoga Nidra is a conscious practice of relaxation in the pose of shavasana.  The moment you make a decision to relax, the body starts secreting healthy positive hormones and wholesome messages to every minute aspects of your body, mind and the whole personality.

About the Cleansing Practices

The hatha yoga cleansing practices are simple in nature but profound in their effect. Hatha yoga is not only physical yoga. Traditionally, it begins with the shatkarmas, a group of cleansing practices which help to purify and detoxify the body and internal systems. With this detoxification of the body, the internal systems are regulated, helping to manage imbalances which occur within the body due to irregular diet, lifestyle and habits.

The practices of hatha yoga have the intention to harmonise, reorganise and balance the body, the physical structure and the energy system, allowing you to move into the dimension of the mind in preparation for the practices of meditation, and to integrate the entire human personality, through head, heart and hands.
The weekend retreat will include the following cleansing and relaxation practices:
•    Nasal cleansing (Jala Neti)
•    Intestinal wash (Laghoo Shankaprakshalana)
•    Stomach cleansing (Kunjal Kriya)
•    Yoga Nidra - deep relaxation
•    Pranayama – breathing techniques, including full yogic breathing,  Bhramari (humming bee breath) and Kapalbhati (cleansing the frontal lobes of the brain)
•    Trataka – concentrated gazing on a candle flame
•    Yoga for health management – understanding yoga as a lifestyle for overall mental and physical health and wellbeing.
•    Other regular ashram practices including havan, kirtan, mantra, forest meditation walks, and karma yoga.

The cleansing practices are offered at Rocklyn Ashram in March at the time of the transition between the seasons to help the body adjust to the new season’s energy and qualities. The autumn equinox signals a time of transition from outward engagement to inner reflection with the coming of the quieter winter months. The ashram offers a rare opportunity to learn these little-known practices in a supportive environment conducive to purification.

The program will allow time and space for periods of silence, personal reflection and self-study.

Building on the Yoga & Meditation for Beginners,
Level 2 will focus on Sitting Longer & Stronger: 

  • yoga postures to develop a longer & comfortable sitting position 
  • expanding on the awareness of pranayama
  • cultivating the discipline needed for extended stillness & focus
  • cultivating the witness aspect
  • Antar Mouna Meditation stages 1, 2 & 3 becoming the observer

The ashram situated on the edge of the Wombat State Forest is a perfect silent retreat environment.  A short silent retreat offers precious time and space, not always available in other forms of living, for quieter and deeper self-reflection and self-enquiry. 

Being silent is an opportunity to be with yourself, to be still, and to experience enhanced connection with yourself and your surroundings. 

By committing to a silent retreat with the practice of self-awareness and the attitude of a witness the mind naturally becomes less busy, more focused and clear without effort, revealing deeper understanding and inner contentment.

A Yoga Mindful Lifestyle Retreat differs a little from the Living Consciously program in that extra time is allocated after lunch to deepen relaxation and reclaim inner balance and direction during your personal retreat. Course material and group meetings are consistent with the Living Consciously concept of mindfulness.
