Although Ida responsible for physical flow and Pingala responsible for mental flow are different modes of activity, it is necessary to balance the functions for both the mental flow and the physical flow for total wellness and peace of mind.
The mind and body are not separate entities, although there is a tendency to think and act as though they are. The gross form of the mind is the body and the subtle form of the body is the mind. The practice of asana integrates and harmonizes the two. Both the body and the mind harbour tensions or knots.
The aim of asana, pranayama, mudra, bandha, meditation and living a conscious lifestyle through a regular practice of yoga is to release these knots to create a good flow of prana through the entire system of body, mind, emotions.
