Winter is a time when the natural outward moving energies intuitively begin to turn inwards making a winter silent retreat a perfect time for self awareness and reflective practices to discover the quieter inner you.  

The ashram situated on the edge of the Wombat State Forest is a perfect silent retreat environment offering time and space, not always available in other forms of living. 

Make a Sankalpa – intention and commit to a silent retreat to recognize the present mind and cultivate the attitude of becoming a watcher to ones actions & reactions.

The body cannot move without an instruction, but unfortunately the mind does.  The more we are conscious and present naturally the mind becomes less busy, more focused and clear without effort, revealing deeper understanding and inner contentment.

Ward off the Winter Blues 

Shake the winter blues and awaken the Shakti: the life-force which lies within the centre of our body.

Warm up from the inside with dynamic Manipura focused – solar plexis - yoga postures, heating pranayamas and bandhas – locks to release and distribute the pranic fire within.

Practices will focus on: 

  • Dynamic asanas - that focus on the Manipura Chakra – solar plexis 
  • 10 rounds of Surya Namaskara with Mantras to awaken the solar system within
  • Bhastrika Pranayama – bellows breath, increases the flow of air into the body to produce inner heat at both the physical and subtle levels, stoking the inner fire of mind/body.  This practice removes sluggishness in the doshas, burns up and flushes out toxins and wastes, and fires up the digestive system.
  • Kapalbhati Pranayama – purifies the ida & pingala nadis - important energy channels
  • Prana Mudra - invocation of energy: awakens the dormant prana shakti, vital energy, and distributes it throughout the body, increasing strength, health and confidence. 

The bandhas, act as the “transformers, conductors, fuses, switches and insulated wires to carry the power to its destination”.

  • Uddiyana Bandha - abdominal contraction: the digestive fire is stimulated and the abdominal organs are massaged and toned.

At the beginning of the year we often look back over the year that has just flown by and did we ever Make a Start on that intended yoga, meditation and relaxation routine for much needed health and de-escalation of stress levels!!!

Usually the answer is no because somehow a mountain of other stuff got in the way. 

The Make a Start Yoga & Meditation weekend will focus on building: 

  • yoga postures to develop a good sitting position 
  • awareness of breath
  • cultivating the discipline needed for stillness & breath awareness

  • Make sure you have a dedicated space for your practice that is fresh and clean

  • Pre-prepare a healthy, fresh and delicious breakfast to mindfully eat without unconsciously picking up the mobile phone, newspaper or magazine

Understanding the chakras to enhance your personal life

When we become more attuned and sensitive to our feelings that may be triggered by physical, mental, emotional or spiritual distress the symptoms and psychology of the distress is not often understood at the level of the chakras.

The chakras are responsible for the wellness of the body, perceptions, expressions, clarity, discernment and spiritual health.  The chakras are 6 vortexes of energy sites located along the spine where you perceive, absorb and dispense energies of personal experiences.  For health and enhancement of one’s personal expression in all relationships with and in the world the chakras ultimately need to vibrate harmoniously like a well-tuned instrument.

Included are twice daily group sessions discussing the subject of focus for the day, a review at the end of the day before meditation, and the experience of regular yoga classes.

A Yoga Mindful Lifestyle Retreat differs a little from the Living Consciously program in that extra time is allocated after lunch to deepen relaxation and reclaim inner balance and direction during your personal retreat. Course material and group meetings are consistent with the Living Consciously concept of mindfulness.
